A Few Restaurants Near the Texas Capitol in Austin

These are a few of the restaurant options available for the hungry intern.
  • Galaxy Cafe is an easy drive from the Capitol, as it resides in the West Lynn neighborhood. It’s easy to go multiple times and never be dissatisfied, because their menu is full of incredible options. The menu is classically divided into sandwiches, soups, salads burgers, etc, but each meal is special in its own way. The Italian Burger is a perfect example of this classic yet unique approach, as it’s a burger with prosciutto, mozzarella, and balsamic roasted tomatoes. I’ve found this type of innovative classical approach to be synonymous with Austin’s retro-hip culture.
  • Conveniently located on Congress Ave, only a couple blocks away from the Capitol, Planet Sub is a great lunch option. They have a large variety of sandwiches, from the classics to their in house originals. Their subs are consistently delicious and have high quality ingredients. A much trendier option than Quiznos a block away.
  • If you are unable to get away from the office for lunch, you can always run downstairs to the Capitol Grill, the Capitol’s on-site cafeteria. They have a large variety of options to choose from. You’ll find lots of capitol employees and visitors eating here, and may even run into a Representative or Senator.
  • Caffe Aragona is full of personality and charm. The bakery and coffee shop combination aids to the warm and inviting atmosphere. They pride themselves on their serving Lavazza brand coffee, a huge hit in Italy, but this local gem also makes amazing sandwiches. It is easy to enjoy a relaxing lunch with friends here, but their location being only a block away from the capitol on Congress Ave, allows for a convenient and quick lunch as well.
  • Undoubtedly one of the most well received restaurants in Austin, Homeslice is the perfect blend of the classic family-friendly New York pizza joint and low-key Austin dining. From the moment you step into the restaurant you can feel the cool collective precision of the staff and inviting atmosphere. A consequence of its popularity, getting a table at Homeslice is a time investment. Luckily this issue is resolved with a bar and patio in the back, as well as ping pong tables and cooling mist on warmer days. Similarly to Galaxy Cafe, Homeslice brings retro-hip culture to new heights, and sheer quality of the masterfully crafted pizza can speak for itself.
