5 Things to do at the United States Capitol

Posted on Saturday, Jul 28, 2018

The Capitol building is one of the most important in the United States Government. If you have never seen it in person, you are in for a treat. The Capitol is a huge, and incredibly impressive structure to stand outside of. Plus, the outside of the dome has been redone so it looks amazing. The inside of the building is very intricately done with incredible art work all around. But you will have to see all of this for yourself. Below are the top 5 things you will have to do when you visit the Capitol

  1. Check out all of the statues. Each state has donated two statues but there are also various other statues scattered throughout the Capitol. Try and find the statues from your home state!
  2. Visit the rotunda and stand in awe as you look up into the huge dome. The art in this room is breathtaking and the size of the dome is surprising once you stand under it. (Even though the dome at the Texas State Capitol is larger)
  3. Visit the “tomb” of George Washington. Underneath the Capitol is a room with a coffin and black sheet over it. It was created for Washington to rest after he died but he is actually buried at Mount Vernon. Either way it is still cool to see this secluded and private room beneath the Capitol.
  4. Check out the House and Senate Chambers. These are the rooms where the biggest policy decisions in our country are decided. Seeing them in person is truly special.
  5. Find the offices for your Senators and Congressmen. Finding where your politicians are located is a fun and interesting hunt.
What will you see at the Capitol?
