Eligibility

As a premier professional internship experience, the Public Policy Internship Program (PPIP) establishes high standards for our interns. Please review the eligibility requirements based on the geographical location of one of our internship sites.

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for a PPIP Austin internship:
  1. Be a United States citizen; permanent residents are not eligible.
  2. Be in good standing (academic and conduct) at Texas A&M University.
  3. Be enrolled at TAMU as an undergraduate, master’s, or PhD student. Onc semester of full-time enrollment completed at Texas A&M University by the time of the internship. 
  4. Have a minimum 2.5 overall GPR.
  5. Have valid health insurance during their internship.
  6. Attend all pre-departure events held in College Station.
  7. Must be able to work the entire length of legislative session, which exceeds TAMU academic semester dates
*December graduates are allowed to participate in the Austin program during the spring semester after they graduate.   

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for a PPIP Washington, D.C. internship:

  1. Be a United States citizen; permanent residents are not eligible.

  2. Be in good standing (academic and conduct) at Texas A&M University.

  3. Be enrolled in Texas A&M University as an undergraduate, master’s, or Ph.D. student.*

  4. Have a minimum 3.0 overall Grade Point Ratio (GPR). Students with a 2.8+ may apply with additional letter of recommendation and a personal statement explaining their GPR).

  5. Have completed at least 60 hours (including transfer hours) by the time of their internship and at least one semester of full-time enrollment at Texas A&M University. Graduate students are exempt from the credit requirement. 

  6. Have valid health insurance during their internship.

  7. Be able to attend all pre-departure events held in College Station.

*Graduating seniors are allowed to participate in the Washington, D.C. program during the long semester after they graduate. For example, December graduates can participate the following spring, August graduates can participate the following fall, and May graduates can participate the following summer or fall. Graduate students cannot intern after they graduate.

Students of any major and discipline in good standing with the university may apply for an international internship with the program.  While graduate students are welcome to apply, they are accepted on a limited basis.  Applicants must meet all of the following criteria based on their hosting organization to be eligible for a PPIP international internship:

CIFE or IEP (Berlin, Germany)

  1. Be a United States citizen; permanent residents are not eligible.

  2. Be 18 years of age or older at the time of the application.

  3. Be a currently enrolled degree-seeking (undergraduate, master’s, or Ph.D. student) student in good standing (academic and conduct) at Texas A&M University with at least 60 credit hours (including transfer hours) completed by the time of internship. Graduate sttudents are exempt from the credit requirement. 

  4. Be returning to campus to finish academic degree after the internship.

  5. Have at least a 3.0 overall GPR on a 4.0 scale.  Students with 2.8+ GPRs will be considered on a limited basis, but are required to submit an additional personal statement regarding GPR status and an additional letter of recommendation.

  6. Have valid health insurance during the internship semester.

  7. Have successfully completed a minimum of either the 102 level or the equivalent of the language of the country before applying.

  8. Have a valid passport that does not expire within six months of the end of the internship semester.

  9. Be able to attend all pre-departure events held in College Station.

U.S. Commercial Service (London, England; Madrid, Spain; Paris, France)

  1. Be a United States citizen; permanent residents are not eligible.

  2. Be 18 years of age or older.

  3. Be a currently enrolled degree-seeking (undergraduate, master’s, or Ph.D. student) student in good standing (academic and conduct) at Texas A&M University with at least 60 credit hours (including transfer hours) completed by the time of internship. Graduate students are exempt from the credit requirement. 

  4. Be returning to campus to finish academic degree after the internship.

  5. Have at least a 3.0 overall GPR on a 4.0 scale.  Students with 2.8+ GPRs will be considered on a limited basis, but are required to submit an additional personal statement regarding GPR status and an additional letter of recommendation.

  6. Have valid health insurance during the internship semester.

London, England applicants: Preference will be given to those with office work experience.
