The Best Queso Spots in Austin

Posted on Friday, Feb 10, 2017

As promised in my biography, I set out to sample all the best queso spots in Austin. Obviously, there’s no way to have tried the vast restaurants in the food capitol of Texas, however I will seek to give you an update on my ventures thus far.

Coming in third place is Black Sheep Lodge. This is not technically a queso spot, but the cheese curds are to die for. Both have to do with cheese, so I count it as a go. Lightly breaded, bite sized pieces make for a midwestern experience many Texans are too proud to try. Get off your high horse and get a basket of this delicious fried cheese.

Our runner up is Tacodeli. At first, I was unsure of this thicker white queso, however it quickly became an addiction. You will not want to stop eating this queso, as it is a nice refresher from the all too-spicy and all too-delicious Doña hot sauce. Originating in Austin, you can find Tacodeli in multiple locations in the city as well as in Dallas.

Coming in first place, the best queso in Austin so far is... drum roll please ... Sazon - Sabor a Mexico.
This authentic style queso is made with real cheese that doesn’t break apart, causing you to eat half the platter with one chip. Plus, it’s cheap. During happy hour you can get this queso for $4 and it’s big enough to be your full meal. A great meal for a great deal – it’s hard to beat.

Where I should go next in my pursuit of the best queso in Austin?
