D.C. Life
Howdy! I have been living in Washington D.C. for almost a month now. I moved to Washington D.C. to be an intern for Congressman Will Hurd’s office (TX 23). I have loved my time here so far and am excited to share the unique opportunities and experiences I have while living in our nation’s Capital!
Moving In
I had a unique moving in experience because I am originally from Annapolis, Maryland so Arlington, Virginia is a short 40-minute drive for me! I only brought one suitcase with me to move in because I knew I would be commuting back and forth to home on most weekends to see my family. I am currently living with 5 other girls that are part of the Texas A&M system, and they are all great! Throughout college I lived with the same girl all four years, so it has been a fun experience to live with girls who are so different from me, but all have similar goals… to make it big in Washington D.C.
First Day at Work
I am currently an intern for Congressman Will Hurd’s office. Interns are a vital piece of the policy making process. I have had the opportunity to help write constituent letters, go to legislation hearings, as well as help with some behind the scenes videos with the Congressman. One of my favorite parts about being an intern is actually having the opportunity to give constituents of TX 23 a tour of the Capitol. I love getting to interact with Congressman Hurd’s constituents and show them all the unique pieces in the Capitol; like the two Texas statues, Sam Houston and Stephen Austin. With my staff badge I am also able to take the tours to the speaker’s balcony which has THE BEST view of the city.
My host office is also so willing to take the time to teach me what I need to know to be successful during my internship, and in my career to follow. I really appreciate all they have done for me, and I am looking forward to learning more throughout the rest of my internship!!!
