Oh, the people you will meet!

There are 6.32 million people in the Washington-Arlington-Alexandria area. Some of them you will hear about on the news, names in every headline, some you will have never known until you get here.

First off, and most importantly, the roommates. Bond well with your roommates; they are your home base in uncharted territory. Trust Erin and Stephanie when they say they can match you well; I can testify that is the truth. Go on adventures, picnic at the Capitol, figure out the Metro, and eat tapas together.

Second is why you are here, your internship. No matter how large or small your office is, everyone there has some experience or piece of advice that you should seek out. At my internship, everyone I have talked to is extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and willing to help me navigate what career path I want to continue on.

Third, the people you didn’t expect to meet. Shopping for work shoes and meeting someone who works at the Library of Congress, the fellow Metro rider with a cute lunchbox who works at an art museum, the mom at Whole Foods whose CPA sister grows peppers in her backyard to sell, or the security guard who teaches you about the vast libraries with handwritten Supreme Court decisions. These were unplanned, chance events that teach you more and more about the city, life, and brighten your day.

Who will you meet? What will you learn from them? Will you meet the same people I did or another one of the 6.32 million?
