As a premier professional internship experience, the Public Policy Internship Program (PPIP) establishes high standards for our interns. Please review the eligibility requirements based on the geographical location for our internship sites.
Note: U.S. Citizenship is required for all PPIP locations, due to the requirements of our hosting offices. If you are not a U.S. Citizen but would like to explore opportunities similar to what PPIP offers, please email program staff at ppip@tamu.edu for a list of options you may be eligible for.

Applicants for the Austin, Texas program must be able to serve the entire 140-day Texas Legislative session (early January through late May), which exceeds the Texas A&M spring semester. Applicants must also meet the following criteria for this program location:

The student must be a United States citizen and at least 18-years-old; permanent residents are not eligible for this program.

The student must be classified as a degree-seeking undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral student at Texas A&M University.

The student must have a cumulative GPR of 2.5; however, a student with a 2.25-2.49 cumulative GPR may apply to PPIP with 1) a third letter of recommendation, and 2) a personal statement explaining the lower GPR. First-semester freshmen are not eligible to apply.

The student must obtain valid health insurance for the duration of the internship.

The student must be in good-standing with Texas A&M University, pursuant to the university's Academic and Student Life rules.

The student must be able to attend all pre-departure events held in-person in College Station.
Seniors that graduate in December are allowed to participate in the Austin, Texas program the following spring. Affected students will be classified as U5 "postbaccalaureate undergraduate" during the internship semester.
Graduate and/or professional students cannot intern with PPIP after graduation.

The student must obtain valid health insurance for the duration of the internship.

The student must be able to attend all pre-departure events held in-person in College Station.
Graduating seniors are allowed to participate in the Washington, D.C. program during the long semester after they graduate. For example, December graduates can participate the following spring, August graduates can participate the following fall, and May graduates can participate the following summer or fall. Affected students will be classified as U5 "postbaccalaureate undergraduate" during the internship semester.
Graduate and/or professional students cannot intern with PPIP after graduation.

Students of any major and discipline in good standing with the university may apply for an international PPIP internship. International location applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for a PPIP international internship:-
The student must be a United States citizen and at least 18-years old; permanent residents are not eligible.

The student must be classified as a degree-seeking undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral student at Texas A&M University, including the College Station, Galveston, McAllen, Law School, and Health Science Center campuses.

The student must be returning to campus to finish the academic degree after the internship. Students may not participate in PPIP's international programs after graduation.

The student must have a cumulative collegiate GPR of 3.0. First-semester freshmen are not eligible to apply.

The student must be in good standing with Texas A&M University pursuant to the Academic and Student Life rules.

Upon selection to PPIP, the student must register with Texas A&M's Education Abroad Office and must obtain valid CISI health insurance for the duration of the internship.

Upon selection to PPIP, the student must possess a valid passport that does not expire within six months after the conclusion of the end of the internship semester. The student must also be able to acquire a visa for the host country.

The student must be able to attend all pre-departure events held in-person in College Station.
A language assessment will be conducted as part of the interview process for all Madrid and Paris applicants.

Madrid applicants must be able to communicate at the 202 level or higher in Spanish.

Paris applicants must be able to communicate at the 202 level or higher in French.
Fluent or native speakers are considered without course credit, but must meet the equivalent requirements as stated above.
